Biography :

Laurence Picot is a French creator and journalist, initially recognized for her talent as a designer of art furniture. After showcasing her works in North America, particularly in New York and Los Angeles, she was invited by Elisabeth Delacarte to hold a solo exhibition at the Galerie Avant-Scène in Paris in 1997. However, after this significant milestone, she chose to pause her design career to delve into the exploration of luxury through journalism, collaborating with prestigious media outlets such as Le Monde, Elle, and Paris Match. In parallel with her journalistic journey, Laurence Picot founded the collective LuxInside, an art-science project that employs medical scanning technology to reveal the hidden qualities of luxury objects. This innovative initiative was selected by the Institut Français to represent French culture internationally, participating in traveling exhibitions worldwide.

In 2022, she published Antidesign, a book celebrating the creations of the designers at the Galerie Avant-Scène while tracing the evolution of art furniture since the 1980s. Although Laurence Picot has put her design career on hold, her works continue to be presented and sold through the Galerie Avant-Scène. The gallery showcases her unique pieces, which blend artistic and sculptural qualities, while maintaining their place in the luxury and contemporary art market. This collaboration with the Galerie Avant-Scène allows her creations to continue captivating collectors and art enthusiasts, thereby highlighting the relevance and sustainability of her work within the design world.
